fall updates
booking news etc
Hello dear subscribers!
I’ve been slowly working on creating some new flash - with my summer move into a house with a yard, I have begun growing flowers which I hope to eventually use to make my own reference imagery, and the first flowers for that have finally appeared.
I have a few weekday spots left for this month and am also booking for the rest of the year. Fill out a form on my website and I’ll get back to you soon!
I’ve been reflecting on my practice this year and the ways I’'d like to continue changing - in that vein, I am starting to offer handpoked tattoos again, but in stippled, soft forms rather than linework. in particular, I find that handpoking works very well on finger tattoos, providing an easy healing process and less fall out than when I do them with machine. So far, I also am imagining drawing these on in session together and while I don’t have a specific form for these, you can book via submitting my current custom booking form (I’ll be working on adding a new handpoke request form soon).
For years now I have used http://www.plantillustrations.org to find the imagery that I base my floral drawings on, and given the vast catalogue there, I wanted to share the link so that you can find references yourself! I am happy to tattoo directly from images there, or use them as inspiration for drawing custom designs for you. It is fairly straightforward to create a stencil from an image, so this can be done while we are together at a custom appointment :)
Finally, I am hoping to offer more flexible start times for weekday appointments, as I know it is not super practical to get to a mid day session if you work a typical job. My weekend appointments are staying booked out 4-8 weeks and I want to be able to see more of you during the week! Please let me know what start times on weekdays would work for you, so that I can adjust my offerings. I currently book Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Beyond tattooing, I have been very captivated by solar reactive dye - cyanotype as well as solarfast, and I am hoping to launch a small drop of linen bandanas soon (they are currently in the wash). Made from recycled linen sheets and finished with serged edges using secondhand cotton thread, I used a variety of dried and fresh flowers for these prints and am very excited with how they came out!
As far as my life beyond art - as many of you know, my dear dog Benny had a cancerous tumor appear on his leg in July, just after I recovered from 2.5 weeks of my first covid infection. I was lucky to be able to get him in fairly quickly to see an oncologist, and he had his back leg amputated a week later. The recovery went smoothly and he is back to his sweet self!
I hope you are hanging in there as well as one can in this current moment in time. I am grateful for the sacred space we get to share in my studio and the conversations we have!
xoxo emily rose
